G7 FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON THE SITUATION OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN AFGHANISTAN

USPA NEWS - We, publish the full statement as it was delivered by the French Ministry of foreign Affairs, on May 12, over the G7 of MFA’s, Meeting held in of the G7 which took place in Weissenhaus, Germany, from May 12 to 14, 2022., bringing together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the seven countries, including Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.. This meeting is an opportunity to take stock of the support provided to Ukraine and Moldova in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine and to discuss the global consequences of the crisis, in particular on food security. Ministers are to discuss in particular the strengthening of measures to be taken against Russia in response to its military aggression in Ukraine, and ways to strengthen the coordination and resilience of democracies and their partners, to face the threats that she poses for international peace and security. The minister will particularly highlight the consequences that the crisis has on the most fragile countries, particularly in terms of food and energy security. He will recall the objectives of the FARM initiative (Food and Agriculture Resilience Mission) adopted by the European Council

G7 FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON THE SITUATION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN AFGHANISTAN "We the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union, express our strongest opposition and deplore the increasing restrictions imposed on the rights and freedoms of women and girls in Afghanistan by the Taliban. We stand with the Afghan people in their demand for equal rights in line with the Taliban’s commitments to all Afghans and Afghanistan’s obligations under international law. We condemn the imposition of increasingly restrictive measures that severely limit half the population’s ability to fully, equally and meaningfully participate in society, including the recent announcement on women’s appearance in public along with new punishments for family members to enforce compliance with these restrictions. With these moves, the Taliban are further isolating themselves from the international community. Echoing our joint statement, together with Norway, from March 24, we call on the Taliban to urgently take steps to lift restrictions on women and girls, respect their human rights, and meet the expectations of Afghans and the world to permit their full, equal and meaningful participation in work, education and public life, as well as freedom of movement and freedom of speech, which is crucial for long-term peace, stability and development of the country."
