USPA NEWS - Thomas Weikert, the 7th ITTF President, was elected for the ITTF´s Presidential Office at the ITTF´s Annual General Meeting in Dusseldorf, Germany.
On the May 31st, 2017, National Table Tennis Associations voted for the ITTF President for next four years at the ITTF´s Annual General Meeting. To ensure transparency of the election process, the ITTF invited press-journalists to the AGM. Your kind servant had the honor to be present on the AGM and to witness the elections among other accredited on the #ITTFWTTC2017 in Dusseldorf, Germany journalists,
Mr. Weikert became the ITTF´s President in the year 2014, when then-President Adnan Sharara, became the Chair Person and Honorary President of the International Table Tennis Association. And three years later Mr. Weikert has been newly elected to the ITTF´s Presidency. The voters had to choose between two candidates: a legendary table tennis player Jean-Michel Saive from Belgium and then-current ITTF President-candidate Thomas Weikert of Germany. Both candidates published their agendas before the elections and, also, had opportunities to speak in front of the AGM on the day of the elections. As the result of the vote, Thomas Weikert received 118 votes and Jean-Michel Saive “” 90.
Along with the the vote for the president, delegates of National Associations, also, supported the members-candidates for the ITTF´s Executive Committee picked by Thomas Weikert:
Shi Zhihao (China),
Petra Sörling (Sweden),
Masahiro Maehara (Japan),
Khalil Al-Mohannadi (Qatar),
Nestor Tenca (Argentina),
James Morris (New Zealand),
Alaa Meshref (Egypt)
and Bruce Burton (Canada).

On his Press Conference after the elections, moderated by Matt Pound, the President said, that he has a clear vision on what to do and the knowledge how to do in order to bring development of Table Tennis on a new level and globally. Mr. T.Weikert thanked all those, who supported him in this Presidential campaign and all who believes in him. Table Tennis world is now looking for the excellent leadership of Thomas Weikert to continue.
